Toronto-based Corvid Pictures produces provocative screen media combining the talents of producing partners Sarah Timmins and Craig David Wallace
Projects include the half-hour supernatural comedy series TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL. A live action comedy-horror high school series following the adventures of teenagers who use the power of evil to try cure their high school issues. The series was broadcast on SPACE, Comedy and MUCHMusic in Canada, FEARnet (US), SyFy (UK) as well as in Russia, Germany, Australia and Scandinavia. It is currently available on Hulu and Netflix in various regions and an animated feature TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL: THE END OF THE END is in production after a wildly successful fan-supported crowd funding experience on Indiegogo. The series and feature is a co-production of Corvid Pictures with Aircraft Pictures and Winnipeg based Frantic Films, and is described by Ain’t it Cool News founder/critic Harry Knowles as “This is like SCOTT PILGRIM meets BREAKFAST CLUB meets EVIL DEAD 2!!!” The show features an online game called DESCENT INTO CROWLEY HEIGHTS. The series first season was nominated for 8 Gemini Awards, winning Best Ensemble Cast in a Comedy Series. The series is one of only TV projects to be featured in a SXSW Film Festival panel about the adaptation of the series from the short film co-written and directed by Craig David Wallace. The second season garnered another 6 Canadian Screen Award nominations as well as nominations and awards through the Writers Guild of Canada and Canadian Comedy Awards.
Other Corvid projects include the award-winning feature film THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS, directed by Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo) and starring Academy Award nominated actress Ellen Page (Juno). The film premiered opening night of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, winning the Manfred Salzgeber Prize for innovative filmmaking. The film was awarded Best Canadian Feature and Best Actress prize for Ellen Page at the Atlantic Film Festival, was named one of Canada’s Top Ten by the Toronto International Film Festival Group for 2007, and nominated for 6 Genie awards. The film had a world-first interactive component called the “Tracey Re:Fragmented” project which was embraced by production communities and cinephiles around the world and the accompanying competition allowed the winners to have their work included in the bonus features on the North American DVD release.
The company also produced a zombie rom-com short film LOVE LETTER FROM AN OPEN GRAVE, starring Jonas Chernick (The Border) and Kristin Booth (Young People F***ing). The short was directed by Corvid Pictures partner Craig David Wallace, written by black-list writer Elan Mastai (Sk8life, Sundance 2008) and featured the music of Kid Koala for Bravo! and the CBC.
